Atlanta claims the title “Capital of the New South.” It is a thriving metropolis known for sightseeing, shopping, shows, soul food and surprises. Atlanta is a major U.S. travel destination, drawing more than 38 million visitors each year. Visitors are often surprised to find that Atlanta is one of the most affordable major travel destinations (KMPG Competitive Travel Alternatives Study). Atlanta is a business crossroads. Coca-Cola, UPS, Delta Airlines, SunTrust Bank, Cox Communications, and Georgia–Pacific are just a few of the major corporations headquartered in Atlanta. And, Atlanta is one of the leading convention and meeting sites in the nation. Over 3,000 conventions convene in the Atlanta Metropolitan area annually.
Getting to Atlanta is easy. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is cited as the busiest airport in the world. Thirty-two airlines offer service to about 85 million passengers each year. Located 10 miles south of downtown, Atlanta transportation options include: rental cars, taxis, shuttles and Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) trains. Most visitors to Atlanta find it a rental car helpful for experiences outside the city. However, downtown and Buckhead area traffic is challenging. MARTA’s Tourist Loop, is the best way to travel between hotels and downtown area attractions.
